It had just started snowing (again) and I was at ShopRite. There was a woman walking up and down the isles in a rush and clearly nervous. She kept looking out the windows. I saw her 3 or 4 times through out the store. I ended up behind her in the check out line. She was explaining to the cashier how nervous she was that she wouldn't get home before the snow got bad and her kids would be headed home on the bus soon. She's afraid of driving in the snow. Her kids father had recently been arrested and now she's a single mom trying to do the best she can. She talked about to the cashier about how its finally pay day and she can finally buy her kids groceries. She looked like she was going to cry. The cashier tried to calm her down, I just tried to smiled at her. She paid for her groceries out of two envelopes, she paid the last dollar in coins. We both told her to drive safely. She smiled back. The cashier started ringing up my order. As the single mom was leaving she stopped her cart and told the cashier she found a bag of rolls that she hadn't paid for. As she started digging for more change she looked embarrassed and even more nervous. I told the cashier to put the rolls on my bill, handed the single mom the bag of rolls and told her to get home safely. The cashier thanked me for helping a sister out.
